Aromatic:

  • Add 1-10 drops to your favourite diffuser
  • Add 1-2 drops to your palms, rub together and inhale
  • Inhale directly from essential oil bottle
  • Add 1-2 drops to a diffuser necklace
  • Add 1-2 drops to a bowl of hot water, make a “tent” with a towel over the bowl and inhale
  • Add 1-2 drops to the floor of your shower

Topical:

  • Apply directly to the area of concern (follow dilution recommendations as needed)
  • Apply just under the nose, to the back of the neck, to the temples, wrists, or bottoms of the feet
  • For maximum impact on the entire body, choose the bottoms of the feet, spine, or navel (abdomen)
  • For specific organs or body systems, apply to reflexology points on the ears, hands, or feet (see chart below)
  • Add a warm compress or massage the oils for faster and more enhanced absorption
  • Create a “roller bottle” with a single oil or a blend of oils mixed with a carrier oil and roll onto the area of choice

Internal: 

  • Apply 1-2 drops on the back of your hand and lick
  • Put 1-2 drops of oil under your tongue, hold for as long as you’d like, then swallow
  • Add 1-2 drops to water or another beverage and drink
  • Add essential oils to an empty veggie capsule and swallow
  • Use essential oils in place of spices or extracts when cooking and baking (remember that the oils are very potent so a toothpick amount may be all you need to add a burst of flavour)
  • Add 1-2 drops of oil to water or oil and use as a mouthwash or for gargling

Frequency:

Studies have found that less oil applied more frequently has a greater impact than applying a large amount of oil at once. For more acute conditions, apply every 20 minutes until your symptoms are relieved. You may need to continue to reapply every 2-4 hours for ongoing relief. For more chronic or long-lasting conditions, applying 2-3 times a day is recommended.
